The news turned her family's world upside down overnight.
Addison has finished the first twelve months of intense treatment, but the journey isn't over yet. She will continue to be on 'maintenance' treatment for the next 18 months.
Child Cancer Foundation has been there for Addison and her family every step of the way.
"Their support has been fantastic," says Addison's dad Richard. "It has been great to have someone to talk to and to know they are there if we need them.
“They've also helped us cover the costs of various travel and household expenses. We can't thank them enough."
Child Cancer Foundation needs your help to support families like Addison’s.
Your donation will help fund vital one-to-one support during the toughest time in their lives.
We don’t receive any direct government funding, so these families rely on the generosity of people like you.
Here are just some of the ways the support of generous people like you helped families impacted by childhood cancer last year.
personal development grants awarded
“A personal development grant helps you to step away from illness and into something more positive. Now when people ask about Freddie we can say, “He’s good, he’s learning the drums.”
– Lisa, whose son Freddie received a PDG for an electronic drum kit and drum lessons after being diagnosed at age 6
families received social connection nationwide
“Our local Whānau Connect Group connected us to other families on the same journey. It helped us form the connections that you need to lessen the feelings of isolation you are experiencing.”
– Kelly, whose son Lachie passed away from cancer at age 12
worth of grocery shops paid for
"When we came back home after three months in hospital, Child Cancer Foundation had arranged a delivery of groceries and firewood. I had also been made redundant around that time… It was a massive support."
- Darrin, whose daughter Brianna was diagnosed at age 6
hours of one-to-one support provided by our team of family support coordinators
"Even though it has been two years since Jaxon’s diagnosis, our family support coordinator Linda is still here for us whenever we need extra emotional support."
- Keri, whose son Jaxon
was diagnosed at birth
